Current happenings at BMH
The past year has been one of remarkable growth and great change at Bryn Mawr Hospital. From our Emergency Department expansion, to a new parking garage, to a new electronic patient record system, we are implementing changes that will help us better serve the community, as we have since 1893.
In response to an increasing need for emergency medical services, we launched a capital campaign in 2005 to raise funds for a three-phase Emergency Department expansion project. In January 2007 we broke ground on the first phase, which we completed in November. It includes a new entrance on Bryn Mawr Avenue as well as an expanded triage area, new treatment rooms, and adult and pediatric waiting areas. These enhancements, which will mean a better Emergency Department experience for patients and their families, were made possible through the extraordinary generosity of our donors. To date, we have raised more than $16 million toward the $20 million project.
Advanced Medical Care
We are committed to offering the communities we serve access to advanced medical technology in a caring environment. To stay abreast of the latest clinical treatment methods and to ensure the comfort of our cardiac patients and their families, we completed the first stage of renovations to our Cardiac Catheterization Lab. When it is finished, the facility will have two new labs, and an existing lab will be enhanced to support electrophysiology procedures. To support the growth of our total joint orthopedic service, we also enlarged our orthopedic unit, featuring 40 private rooms and a larger therapy gym. In addition, we began major renovations to add private rooms on other floors.
Beyond Our Doors…
Across from the Warden Lobby, for greater convenience and accessibility we added a new parking lot. Adjacent to that, soon we will begin construction on a new medical office building to accommodate the growth and depth of our medical staff. Additionally, across Bryn Mawr Avenue, a new parking garage is slated for completion by fall 2008.
…And Into the Community
In July we opened the Bryn Mawr Hospital Health Center, a 130,000-square-foot outpatient facility located on the beautiful rolling hills of Newtown Square’s Ellis Preserve. The Center puts outstanding physicians, nurses and staff, as well as state-of-the-art medical technology, within easy reach of the residents of Delaware County.
Bricks and mortar tell only part of the story. We remain focused first and foremost on human resources. As a reflection of that, our employee satisfaction scores rank among the highest in the nation, at over 92%. Our investments in staff education and training are substantial and contribute to our low staff turnover.
